Our purpose and experience
UniHouse publishes practical guidance for students comparing accommodation and adjusting to university life in Zambia. Our housing articles focus on decisions a renter can act on: viewing a room, checking costs, documenting payments, understanding an agreement, planning transport and raising a problem.
Articles are written or reviewed by named contributors. Co-founders Arnold Kasonde and Frank Kunda are Northrise University students who developed UniHouse while working directly on the student housing platform. Other contributors are identified on the article. When a topic falls outside the team's direct experience, we rely on a qualified or official source and make that source visible to the reader.
How an article is produced
- Choose a real reader need. We use questions from students, common listing problems and gaps we find while supporting users.
- Research the claim. For university services, laws and health guidance, we prefer the university, the Zambian government, the World Health Organization or another primary authority.
- Separate facts from advice. We link factual claims to their source and label practical suggestions as recommendations. We do not present changing rent estimates as guaranteed prices.
- Review before publication. An editor checks that the article answers its title, uses clear language, credits its author and images, and does not make promises that UniHouse cannot verify.
- Recheck after publication. We review time-sensitive guides when a source changes or a reader identifies an issue. Material updates receive a new reviewed date.
Sources, links and changing information
Sources appear near the relevant statement or in a clearly labelled source list. We link to the original source where possible. A link is evidence for a specific statement; it does not mean the source endorses UniHouse.
Rent, room availability, transport times, university requirements and service contacts can change quickly. Readers should confirm these details with the property owner, service provider or university before paying or travelling. We avoid publishing an exact figure when we cannot show how and when it was obtained.
Listings and editorial independence
Property listings are different from editorial articles. Owners or agents provide listing descriptions, prices and availability. UniHouse may perform platform verification checks, but students should still view a property, confirm the person receiving payment and read the agreement before paying. An article does not guarantee a particular listing or landlord.
Advertising revenue helps support the website. Advertising does not decide which guidance we publish or what an article concludes. Ads are kept off private account, messaging, payment and administration screens. Sponsored material, if introduced, will be labelled clearly.
Interactive tools and first-party data
Our student housing cost calculator performs the formula shown on the page using figures entered by the reader. The calculation runs in the browser and does not send the entered budget to UniHouse. We state which costs are included and identify assumptions such as the average number of weeks in a month.
The housing inventory snapshot is calculated from accommodation currently marked available in the UniHouse listing database. It describes UniHouse inventory rather than the whole rental market. The page publishes its method, excludes missing prices from price calculations, identifies the latest inventory date and avoids exposing landlord contact details.
Health and legal information
Our health and legal articles provide general educational information. They do not replace advice from a doctor, counsellor, lawyer, university official or emergency service. These articles use authoritative sources, avoid diagnosis, and tell readers where to seek direct help.
If someone may be in immediate danger or at risk of self-harm, they should contact local emergency services, go to the nearest health facility, or tell a trusted person who can stay with them. A blog article is not an emergency service.
Corrections and reader feedback
We correct factual errors promptly and update an article's reviewed date when the correction changes the guidance. Minor spelling or formatting fixes may be made without a correction note.
